There is no hard and fast rule for each company. Each basic package has differences, and this article is not about the differences each package offers, this is purely the commercial element.

When looking at a funeral plan, three key variables are taken into consideration when pricing up;

  • What you are looking to cover
  • Your age
  • How long you want to pay the cover over

Each of the above will affect either positively or negatively the gross cost of the funeral plan and the monthly instalment value.

We have put together detailed information about the prices available for the pre-paid funeral plan companies that detail the information on their website(s), saves you the hassle of searching for all this information.

With everything financial, you must conduct your research and if possible, get financial advice before taking out a plan.

When researching the price of the cover, remember these prices will almost certainly not cover everything you want or desire.

There are lots of bolt-on costs for all plans.

For example, if you decide to go with a burial plan, 99% of the plans available don't include the burial spot (I know, weird). Burial spot costs can vary between £500 - £8,000 depending on where you live in the country.

But they are not included, so you need to get this as an added bolt-on cost.

Also, most basic plans don't include limo/cars for the family which is pretty much essential for all funerals so, again, can be added as an extra bolt-on or you will need to increase your plan to the next package up.

It's always worth remembering; these companies are offering these packages to make money so they are always looking for ways to increase the amount of money they can get from you every month.

Research and discussions are vital. The worst thing is you take a plan out, it doesn't cover everything you had planned, and then your family are left with a bill to cover the outstanding.

Our Conclusion & Summary

Funeral plans are great.  They can take the financial burden away from your family. However, planning and research are vital. You need to make sure you have covered all eventualities and are happy that there might be an additional cost at the end should everything not be covered.

On top of doing your research, it would be a good idea to speak to a financial broker who has direct access to the entire funeral plan market. Brokers can provide you with a quote based on all your requirements.
